Vintage 2014 - Champagne Louis Roederer

2014 was the year of the "weather waltz" with contrasting weather conditions: a magnificent spring, a cool and rainy summer and a glorious month of September, conducive to, ripe grapes with an excellent balance.

This vintage, which was carefully nurtured by gentle, sustainable viticulture, delivered the full potential of these fleshy, crunchy grapes.

This champagne, from the Domaine Louis Roederer in the Montagne de Reims, is a magnificent blend of the Pinot noirs from Verzy, on a north-east-facing plot, and the Chardonnays from Chouilly, on a south-east-facing plot. Only a few dozen plots were required to bring this vintage to life... Every year is a challenge and only the best years allow us to produce a vintage champagne. Vintage is therefore the testimony of an exceptional year.

Aged for over 5 years in the cellars, this champagne is an invitation to enjoyment, pleasure and good conversation. The reflection of a single year, you will savour its unforgettably elegant character.

Tasting notes

This Vintage can be recognised by its silky mouthfeel and its enticing character where freshness and lightness always come through to balance the richness of the wine.

The power and maturity of Verzy's Pinot noir shape its identity with its notes of intense fruit, juicy pears and concentrated, almost candied citrus fruit and zesty red fruit.

This particular terroir, combined with a high proportion of traditional ageing in French oak barrels, reveals a host of smoky, spicy and mineral flavours, accompanied by a great freshness that gives the champagne a very gastronomic feel. The whole character of the year expresses itself with dynamism and controlled power.

“ A chameleon champagne, concentrated, fruity and deep. It is all the power and maturity of the Verzy Pinot noir that is sought here: concentrated substance, fresh and spicy, ginger-like herbal notes. ”
Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon,
Cellar Master

Ageing potential

Our champagnes undergo an extended period of ageing to allow them to gently evolve and mature, gaining in structure and depth, whilst developing highly nuanced aromas over the years.

You may enjoy them in the purity and chalky freshness of their youth or, if you appreciate more mature champagnes, wait a few more years or even decades for their candied, spicy notes to emerge. Our champagnes have a long future ahead of them and their destiny is in your hands!

Reviews

Wine Spectator (Nov. 2021)
93/100
"Fine and lightly creamy in texture, with a mouthwatering finish that echoes the minerality."
The Wine Advocate (Sept. 2021)
95/100
"Roederer's 2014 Brut Vintage is beautiful, offering up aromas of pear, mirabelle plum, red berries, warm biscuits and smoke. (…) As I wrote of its 2013 predecessor, this is a wine that puts many prestige cuvées to shame."
