Vintage 2012 - Champagne Louis Roederer

2012 was one of the most challenging years ever experienced in Champagne.

However, the low yields due to the continental weather conditions towards the end of the season gave us grapes with unusual levels of maturity, resulting in rich, full-bodied and well-structured wines, worthy of the greatest vintages in Champagne.

This champagne, from the Domaine Louis Roederer in the Montagne de Reims, is a magnificent blend of the Pinot noirs from Verzy, on a north-east-facing plot, and the Chardonnays from Chouilly, on a south-east-facing plot. Only a few dozen plots were required to bring this vintage to life... Every year is a challenge and only the best years allow us to produce a vintage champagne. Vintage is therefore the testimony of an exceptional year.

Aged for over 5 years in the cellars, this champagne is an invitation to enjoyment, pleasure and good conversation. The reflection of a single year, you will savour its unforgettably elegant character.

Tasting notes

This 2012 vintage displays the minerality of the Pinots noirs grown in the Verzy and Verzenay vineyards.

In that year, the generous sunshine and the carefully crafted ageing in large oak barrels perfectly embodies the character of these terroirs. Its springtime flavours of citrus and fresh fruit, as well as an energetic and full-bodied structure of great dynamism. A sensation of fabric, of silky material, smooth and full of softness: this is a fine champagne of great style, destined to complement a refined cuisine full of saline flavours.

“ A real impression of classicism and comfort bolstered by a pleasant yet discreet acidity creating an impression of lightness that balances the wine’s powerful structure. ”
Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon,
Cellar Master

Ageing potential

Our champagnes undergo an extended period of ageing to allow them to gently evolve and mature, gaining in structure and depth, whilst developing highly nuanced aromas over the years.

You may enjoy them in the purity and chalky freshness of their youth or, if you appreciate more mature champagnes, wait a few more years or even decades for their candied, spicy notes to emerge. Our champagnes have a long future ahead of them and their destiny is in your hands!
