Collection 245 - Champagne Louis Roederer

The year 2020 followed a similar trajectory to that of 2019 with a mild and rainy winter followed by a dry summer with several heatwaves which, although less extreme than in 2019, still had an impact on the vine.

Fortunately, the weather was rather dull and a bit wet in June which gave us a welcome humid interlude between two dry spells. Despite our impressions of relentless heat and sunshine, the temperatures and sunshine levels over the 2020 harvest period were actually relatively normal. These continental conditions, but with "normal" annual averages, enabled the production of mature and well-balanced wines!

Tasting notes

Drawing on an impressive maturity of fruit, this champagne opens with notes of citrus and yellow fruit interwoven with sweeter touches of almonds and wheat.

The bubbles are almost salty, creating a broad, concentrated mouthfeel that is juicy and caressingly soft. This champagne is a subtle balance of substance and chalky freshness, with smoky, slightly oaky overtones stretching out a lingering and exquisitely sculpted finish.

“ Each Collection is a change of gear, a new chapter in the Champagne House's world of taste. Always unique, yet always decidedly Louis Roederer! ”
Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon,
Cellar Master

Ageing potential

Our champagnes undergo an extended period of ageing to allow them to gently evolve and mature, gaining in structure and depth, whilst developing highly nuanced aromas over the years.

You may enjoy them in the purity and chalky freshness of their youth or, if you appreciate more mature champagnes, wait a few more years or even decades for their candied, spicy notes to emerge. Our champagnes have a long future ahead of them and their destiny is in your hands!

Reviews

The Wine Independent (July 2024)
94/100
« (…) The light-bodied, very dry, beautifully poised palate is elegantly crafted with intense citrus and mineral layers and a lively yet well-knit backbone, finishing long and chalky. I love the restraint here—unmistakably Roederer. »
James Suckling (July 2024)
93/100
« Medium to full body with fine, nicely persistent bubbles and good substance on the mid-palate. Almost biting yet polished at the end, with long, refreshing acidity. »
